A veteran television journalist, Contessa Brewer is a widely-recognized anchor on msnbc. She's known for her marathon on-air coverage of breaking news and big political stories -- two presidential elections, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Indian Ocean tsunami, terror attacks in London, Madrid and Mumbai, and the deaths of Pope John Paul II, former President Ronald Reagan and former President Gerald Ford. As a national correspondent, Brewer has reported on stories such as Hurricane Gustav, the Minneapolis bridge collapse, and Katrina's devastation in New Orleans. She also contributes regularly to NBC broadcasts and hosts msnbc's prime-time series "Caught on Camera."

Brewer is a Remembrance Scholar and 1996 magna cum laude graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication and SU's Honors Program. She holds a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism and a Certificate of Contemporary Europe after studying politics in Strasbourg, France.

Brewer spent seven years in local news before coming to msnbc in 2003. At KRNV in Reno, Nevada, Brewer began her career as a reporter-photographer, taking her camera where few women had before, from the cockpit of a MiG jet to the open-end of a C-130.

As an anchor and reporter in Palm Springs, Calif., Brewer interviewed many celebrities, star athletes and nationally-known politicians, such as legendary entertainer Frank Sinatra and Congressman Sonny Bono shortly before his death. Brewer covered Al Gore, George W. Bush and the pivotal 2000 presidential election during her time at WTMJ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Brewer sits on the Centennial Circle for the American Red Cross of Greater New York. She resides in Manhattan with her husband.
