Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has had successful surgery to repair a fractured right elbow. The State Department says she's expected to make a full recovery.
Clinton injured herself in a fall at the State Department on Wednesday.
A department statement says Clinton had surgery Friday morning at The George Washington University Hospital and then returned to her Washington home.
Doctors told her she is expected to recover without lasting damage to her arm.
In the written statement released by the State Department, the secretary, former President Clinton, and their daughter, Chelsea, say they are "grateful for the many prayers and messages of good will they have received these past few days, and are so very thankful for the excellent care provided by the doctors, nurses and the staff of The George Washington University Hospital."
A decisions about the Clinton's schedule and travel will be made and announced in the days to come. She had planned a trip next week to Italy and Greece.
