Three adults and a child were found dead at a Kansas City, Kan., home Monday and authorities were conducting a homicide investigation, police said.

The bodies were found about 4:45 p.m. at a house on a tree-lined street in the northeast Kansas community, according to a news release released by the police department. It was not known how the four died and names were being withheld pending notification of relatives, the release said.

Messages seeking details from the department were not returned Monday night but NBC News affiliate KSHB-TV in Kansas City, Mo., reported that the victims were a 3-year-old girl, her mother, another woman and an elderly man who owned the house. The little girl was discovered in the yard and the adults inside.

Shenia Guetto, who identified herself as the girl's aunt, was among the victims' relatives who gathered behind the crime scene tape Monday night.

“Everybody’s hurt right now,” Guetto told KSHB. “She was only 3 years old. She’s innocent. She didn’t have nothing to do with anything.”

Guetto said that the man who owned the house was known for helping people in need.

"If they didn't have anywhere to go he would help them out and let them stay there ... he was just a good man," she added.
