Sometimes you just know.

Mark Walter did when he captured a stunning panoramic shot from Pinnacle Overlook in the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park at the juncture of Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky state lines.

“This was the one,” the resident of Alpharetta, Ga., said of the shot that would eventually become the top-rated image in this week’s It’s A Snap travel photo contest.

Walter captured his winning image on June 19 with his Nikon D-50 while in the area visiting relatives. After taking multiple shots to get it right, Walter said, “this one shows all the layers of mountains".

Walter said he didn’t take many photographs since his college days, but he recently joined the Roswell Photographic Society to help improve his skills. Now, it’s a full-fledged hobby.

"The park closes at dark and my wife was afraid to get stuck on top of the mountain, but I had to get the shot".

He certainly got what he waited for — and he made it out of the park before closing.
