Rep. Sensenbrenner says he has prostate cancer

WASHINGTON — Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner announced Monday that he is in the early stage of prostate cancer.

A statement released by the Wisconsin Republican's office says the cancer was caught in time and has not spread beyond the congressman's prostate gland.

Sensenbrenner, 66, is a 30-year veteran of the House and the second-highest ranking GOP member on the House Judiciary and Science and Technology committees.

He also said Monday that plans to seek re-election to a 17th term next year.

He says he plans to undergo radiation treatment in coming months but intends to maintain an active schedule, both on Capitol and in the district, including with planned town halls.

Sensenbrenner urges men to be tested and have their prostate examined annually, because the disease is treatable and curable with early diagnosis.
