SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — An American Airlines flight en route to Miami has made an emergency landing in the Dominican Republic.
Airport officials say a mechanical failure forced open a compartment in the plane's fuselage and created a loud vibration. The statement says the plane departed the Dominican Republic at 10:30 Wednesday morning and returned 30 minutes later.
Officials said that the more than 100 passengers aboard flight 680 were placed on other flights.
The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute is investigating.
