Bernard Madoff remains under medical care for a seventh day at a prison medical center for dizziness and hypertension, the federal Bureau of Prisons said Thursday.

The AP and a North Carolina TV station reported that the 71-year-old disgraced financier was transferred from a federal prison to the Duke University Medical Center earlier this week. The AP cited Duke as its source. Duke spokeswoman Debbe Geiger, however, later said the hospital had never had a patient by that name.

Lawyer Ira Sorkin told the AP that Madoff has "had some dizzy spells and some high blood pressure."

Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Traci Billingsley said there have been no assaults at the prison in the past week.
