The Supreme Court will meet in an unusual session on Thursday to issue opinions, raising the possibility that a closely watched campaign finance case could be handed down.
The high court normally schedules its sessions months in advance, and does not say in advance which opinions will be issued.
But the Citizens United campaign finance case, which could reshape the way federal elections are financed, has been handled differently by this court.
The court took the unusual step of hearing an additional day of arguments in the Citizens United case last year. Newly confirmed Justice Sonia Sotomayor also sat in on the second day of arguments, without being around for the first.
