Police have advised a New Zealand student who auctioned her virginity on the Internet that she could be endangering herself.

The anonymous 19-year-old student offered her virginity to the highest bidder under the name "Unigirl," saying she would use the money to pay for her tuition.

She says that more than 30,000 people viewed her advertisement and more than 1,200 had made bids.

She says she has accepted an offer of more than New Zealand dollars 45,000 (US$32,000).

National police spokesman Jon Neilson says such Web site soliciting is not illegal in New Zealand, but "we would suggest it's not a safe practice."
