A man who held hostages at a Wells Fargo Bank for two hours surrendered Wednesday, the Kearney Hub newspaper reported on its Web site.

The Hub reported that the man emerged without a shotgun that he had wielded and was arrested. The newspaper said that between 30 and 40 employees and customers of the bank left the building through a side door late Wednesday morning.

Television station NTV said in a statement that the suspect was a former employee who was fired Feb. 3. The station had no further comment.

Police snipers were stationed on nearby buildings, and police blocked streets surrounding the bank.

Kearney is about 185 miles west of Omaha.
