The deal
Each spring, cruise ships stationed in Southern California head north to prepare for the Alaska cruise season (which lasts from April through September). Savvy cruisers know that as these ships re-position, there are some remarkable deals to scenic ports of call in the Pacific Northwest. Our editors like this 7-night voyage from Los Angeles that’s priced up to 42 percent off rack rates which also includes a free cabin upgrade on select categories.

After leaving Los Angeles on April 24, spend the first night aboard the Norwegian Pearl sailing en route San Francisco, where the ship will dock for a full day before heading to Astoria, Oregon — a port not often found on cruise itineraries.

After, the ship will visit three stunning Canadian port cities: Victoria, Nanaimo, and Vancouver. Interior cabins are priced from $519 (originally $899) with ocean view staterooms available for just $80 more.

The dollars
All quotes are per person and based on double occupancy. Rates cover accommodations, meals and entertainment on the ship. Fees and taxes, as well as shore excursions, personal expenses, alcoholic beverages, and tips are additional.

The catch
It’s still chilly in early spring (temps are typically in the mid-50s) so bring a jacket.
