While most of us are comfortably tucked under our covers, there is a good chance Lesa Jones of Mobile, Ala., will be out trying to capture a photograph.

It was an early morning last May that Jones “tried to re-explore and reconnect with some of the things that I love about the area.”

Her image, “Morning on the Bayou,” was the top-rated image in this week’s It’s A Snap! travel photo contest.

“The red color of that particular shrimp boat caught my eye, so I set up and took the picture before a neighborhood dog chased me back to my truck,” Jones recalled. “They’ll sell you shrimp right off the boat if you time it right, too.”

Jones is a self-described advanced amateur photographer who loves to travel. It just so happens she took this photo a mere 25 miles from her doorstep.

She said loves to go down to La Batre, at the southern part of Mobile County, to “drink a cold beer and watch the fishing boats go out.”

Bayou La Batre’s landscape changes frequently, as the area is consistently pounded by storms, but “the determination, dedication and strength of its population is unmatched,” she said.
