DISH SUBSCRIBERS: Dish Network Corp. added 237,000 net subscribers in the first quarter, the fourth consecutive period with customer gains. Dish has gained ground against satellite TV rival DirecTV Inc. and phone companies that offer video service.
TURNAROUND COSTLY: Dish promoted heavily to gain subscribers. Total subscriber acquisition costs rose by 41 percent to $412 million in the quarter.
TROUBLE LOOMING: If Dish loses a patent infringement case against TiVo Inc., it could be forced to disable 7.3 million digital video recorders. A ruling is coming soon.
