A Berlin doctor who admitted giving group therapy session participants illegal drugs that left two dead and 10 hospitalized has been convicted and sentenced to more than four years in prison.

The 51-year-old, whose name was not released in line with German privacy rules, was convicted Monday of causing bodily harm leading to death for giving the patients Ecstasy and other drugs in 2009.

The news agency DAPD reports he was also convicted of violating drug laws but found not guilty of attempted murder.

The Berlin state court also says he may never work again as a medical doctor or a psychotherapist.

It is not immediately clear if he will appeal.
