Essex County prosecutors have charged a teen who opened fire at a crowded carnival in northern New Jersey with two counts of aggravated assault, weapons offenses and resisting arrest.

The 17-year-old boy from East Orange, whose name has not been released because of his age, injured another teen at the carnival in Bloomfield before being shot by a Bloomfield police officer Friday night.

The officer's shot struck the teen in the torso. He is in critical condition at University Hospital in Newark.

The victim, another 17-year-old from East Orange, was shot in the left elbow. He was treated and released from Clara Mass Hospital in Belleville.

Investigators have not commented on a possible motive.
