Vaughn Ververs named Msnbc.com political editor

Msnbc.com today announced Vaughn Ververs as its new political editor.  Ververs, a veteran political journalist, will lead msnbc.com’s political and elections coverage and manage a team of Web journalists based in NBC News’ Washington, D.C. bureau.

Ververs, with over 16 years experience in covering Washington and politics, was most recently a senior editor at POLITICO.  Prior to joining POLITICO, he served as the senior political editor at CBSNews.com where he led coverage of the historic 2008 presidential election and created and edited the “Public Eye” blog on CBSNews.com.  Before he joined CBS, he was editor of The Hotline, a daily Web briefing on politics published by the National Journal.  While there he led strategy and coverage for many of the major political stories since 1992.

“Vaughn is a first-rate political journalist with a track record of producing innovative coverage,” said Jennifer Sizemore, msnbc.com Editor-in-Chief. “This pivotal time in politics makes it even more urgent that we produce leading coverage of the issues, debates and elections. We are certain we’ve found the right person for the job.”

A native of Colorado, Vaughn now resides in Alexandria, Va., with his wife and three children.
