On Saturday Twitter hit a milestone as the 20 billionth tweet was sent over the service.
The landmark tweet was made by "GGGGGGo_Lets_Go," a graphic designer in Tokyo. Like most tweets, it was little more than noise when taken out of context.
According to a translation appearing in the Guardian, the tweet read: "So that means the barrage might come back later all at once."
Since 2006, Twitter users have flooded the Internet with their 140-character babble known as tweets.
A contributing factor to Twitter's popularity in Japan may be the Japanese language itself. You can say a lot more in 140 kanji characters than you can say in 140 Roman ones.
