A 2-year-old boy missing since Monday evening was found dead Wednesday.

Prescott Valley police say Emmitt Trapp was found around 11:30 a.m. by search and rescue personnel approximately one mile from his home in Dewey-Humboldt.

Police say the area where the body was found has been contained and was being treated as a crime scene. This is standard procedure in any unattended death to ensure that a thorough investigation can be conducted.

No further details were released regarding the cause and manner of the boy's death.

Emmett was reported missing Monday evening by his mother in the Dewey-Humbolt area, 80-miles north of Phoenix.

According to police, the mother was at home with Emmett and his three siblings before she took a nap Monday evening. When she woke up and couldn't find Emmett, she contacted her husband at work and contacted the sheriff's office.
