A woman was shot to death Monday after a confrontation with police outside a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, authorities said.

WXIA-TV reported that the woman had been looking for her husband or boyfriend at the building. Apparently, someone saw her with a weapon and police were called, the station said.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead told The Associated Press at least one officer opened fire after the woman, who was armed, went past a security checkpoint in her car.

Bankhead said it was not immediately known whether the woman died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted wound.

In a statement to The AP, Delta said no airline employees were injured.

Clayton Police Lt. Tina Daniel said the woman was apparently involved in a domestic dispute and was looking for a Delta employee who was not at work, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
