NORWALK, Conn., Sept. 2, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Arch Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:ARJ) announces the election of two Executive Vice Presidents to its senior leadership team -- Joe Shaulson and Luis Fernandez-Moreno, both of whom assumed their new roles effective September 1, 2010. Mr. Fernandez-Moreno joins Arch from The Dow Chemical Company. They will report to Michael E. Campbell, Arch Chemicals' Chairman, President and CEO.

"These two talented executives bring tremendous strategic leadership experience to Arch with their backgrounds in running major multinational business operations," said Mr. Campbell. "Joe Shaulson has already made a significant contribution to Arch in his two years with us, while Luis Fernandez-Moreno brings a wealth of global operational experience from Dow Chemical and Rohm & Haas. They will both play a vital role in capitalizing on Arch's market-leadership positions around the world and in improving our profitability."

Joe Shaulson, who previously served as Senior Vice President, Wood Protection and Personal Care Ingredients, will have responsibility as Executive Vice President for the global operations of Arch's Industrial Biocides, Personal Care Ingredients, and Performance Products businesses. He joined Arch in 2008 as Vice President, Strategic Development, and he has played a key role in sharpening Arch's focus on its biocides business portfolio. He led the team that divested the non-biocides Industrial Coatings business earlier this year to The Sherwin-Williams Company.

Before joining Arch, Mr. Shaulson served as President of Hexcel Corporation's Reinforcements business unit, a multinational producer of woven fabrics and specialty reinforcements for aerospace, industrial composites and other high-performance applications. Prior to Hexcel, Mr. Shaulson was a corporate associate at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He received Bachelor of Science in Economics and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

As Executive Vice President, Luis Fernandez-Moreno is responsible for the global operations of the Company's HTH Water Products and Wood Protection businesses. Luis comes to Arch from The Dow Chemical Company, where he was Vice President of Dow Coating Materials, a $3 billion global business unit providing a wide range of coatings technologies and services to formulators in the architectural, industrial OEM, and transportation and corrosion protection markets.  He assumed this role upon Dow's acquisition of Rohm and Haas in April 2009.  Prior to that, he was the Business Group Vice President of the Rohm and Haas Paint and Coatings Materials division.

Luis joined Rohm and Haas in 1983 and held positions of increasing responsibility in operations, marketing and business management in Brazil, France, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Mexico and graduated from the Wharton Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Headquartered in Norwalk, Connecticut (USA), Arch Chemicals, Inc. is a global Biocides company with annual sales of over $1 billion.  Arch and its subsidiaries provide innovative, chemistry-based and related solutions to selectively destroy and control the growth of harmful microbes.  The Company's concentration is in water treatment, hair and skin care products, wood treatment, preservation and protection applications such as for paints and building products, and health and hygiene applications.  Arch Chemicals operates in two segments: Biocides Products and Performance Products.  Together with its subsidiaries, Arch has approximately 3,000 employees and manufacturing and customer-support facilities in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.  For more information, visit the Company's Web site at http://www.archchemicals.com.
