QUEBEC CITY, Canada, Sept. 14, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) announced today the launch of the FTB-1 handheld testing platform. Equipped with a powerful Intel ATOM processor and the Windows Embedded Standard operating system, the FTB-1 delivers field technicians the speed, performance and flexibility needed to adapt to today's multiservice networking environments.

The FTB-1 is a handheld platform optimized for fast, powerful FTTH and Ethernet testing. Leveraging the module architecture and Windows-based operating system that is consistent across all of EXFO's industry-leading FTB platforms, the FTB-1 provides field technicians with comprehensive testing capabilities in a concentrated, compact package that rapidly and accurately performs in any testing environment.

The FTB-1 is purpose-built for rugged field testing environments, offering a widescreen TFT display and seamless hybrid touchscreen/keypad navigation. Platform connectivity is abundant via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet and multiple USB ports, making it accessible in any testing environment. Featuring EXFO's newly introduced EXpert Test Tools portfolio, the FTB-1 can be further enhanced and tailored to support additional testing capabilities without the need for additional modules. EXpert VoIP allows field technicians to generate and respond to simulated or live VoIP calls to validate performance during turn-up and troubleshooting. EXpert IP integrates six commonly used datacom test tools into one software application to ensure technicians are prepared for a variety of testing environments.

"The diversity of technologies in today's networks demands a testing platform that easily, quickly and cost-effectively adapts to a variety of environments and considerations," said Étienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President -- Wireline Division and Corporate Marketing. "The FTB-1 handheld platform continues EXFO's proven history of developing innovative solutions that directly improve efficiency and productivity across all testing disciplines."

With a small, ergonomic frame, ultra-powerful processing and highly intuitive interface, the FTB-1 gives FTTH and Ethernet field technicians the ability to execute test routines, process results and generate reports simply and efficiently, while automated update capabilities ensure that their platform is running the latest software version available.
