Los Angeles International Airport Ranked No. 7 Among Airports Worldwide With Number of Twitter Followers

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is ranked No. 7 among airports worldwide with the number of followers on the social media site Twitter, according to an AirGate Solutions survey of 150 airports with a presence on Twitter. Since its launch last February, there are over 3,200 Twitter followers @LAX_Officialwww.twitter.com/LAX_Official, making LAX the only airport on the U.S. West Coast in the top 10, according to the survey. Fans of the LAX Facebook page, , continue to increase with currently 2,100 fans since its launch less than a year ago.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the third busiest airport in the U.S. and seventh in the world, offering more than 565 daily flights to 81 destinations in the U.S. and over 1,000 weekly nonstop flights to 65 international destinations on over 75 carriers. In 2009, LAX processed 56.5 million passengers and handled 1.66 million tons of air cargo. LAX is part of a system of three Southern California airports – along with LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys (VNY) general aviation – that are owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a department of the City of Los Angeles.
