Rush Limbaugh has more than his share of detractors. After using his ESPN post to talk about race, Limbaugh was pummeled by sportscasters from coast to coast for mixing sports with politics.
Fair enough. Viewers do turn into sporting events to watch sporting events.
So why did Fox begin its football coverage yesterday with a political attack on Rush Limbaugh, including a pill-popping parody of the embattled talk show host? And why, in the climactic fourth quarter of the Packers game did a Fox sportscaster make yet another gratuitous attack on a man with a 20 million listening audience?
You know, Rush Limbaugh is a big boy and he should be able to take care of these types of parodies that he‘s been dishing out for over 15 years. But the issue is not about Rush. It‘s about Fox‘s football team, who crucified Limbaugh for making a 20-second political statement on the media‘s handling of a black NFL quarterback. But then they treated Rush to a slick, produced skit of him sniffing a bag of pills.
You know what, Fox? You were offsides. And you don‘t owe an apology to Rush Limbaugh. You owe an apology to your fans who tune in each week to watch your superb coverage of the NFL, not your petty attacks directed at a political talk show host.
