A student at a Bible college in North Carolina was shot and killed in his dorm room.

"We are saddened to confirm that one of our students, Jonathan Schipper, was fatally wounded Sunday by another student," Mid-Atlantic Christian University said on its website on Monday.  "We have very few details at this time, but it appears to be a personal matter between two students."

The statement also said the person believed to have shot Schipper surrendered to police. A police dispatcher in Elizabeth City in northeastern North Carolina said no additional information was available Monday night.

Police responded to a report of a shooting on the MACU campus around 1 p.m. Sunday.

The school's statement said Schipper, from Havelock, N.C., was a sophomore in the Youth and Family Studies program.

"While a quiet individual he was well-liked by his fellow students and had a passion for serving the Kingdom," the college said in its statement.
