PEABODY, Mass., Oct. 5, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BK Medical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), will demonstrate its new Flex Focus™ 700 ultrasound system and BK Power Pack this week at the American College of Surgeons 96th Annual Clinical Congress in Washington, DC. The Flex Focus 700 is an ultrasound system designed primarily for ultrasound guided surgical procedures in the operating room. The BK Power Pack is a full back-up power solution for the Flex Focus family of ultrasound systems that provides cordless imaging for up to four hours.

"The response to our recent introductions of the Flex Focus 700 and BK Power Pack has been overwhelmingly positive, which is evidenced by multiple new system orders we've received since both products were announced in Europe this past month," said Michael Brock, president of BK Medical. "With the Flex Focus 700, we are now able to offer our customers a dedicated system for guiding surgical procedures that is easy to use and provides premium diagnostic imaging for all patient types."

The Flex Focus 700 system is designed to move effortlessly around the operating room. Its high-resolution, 19-inch monitor displays sharp laparoscopic, intraoperative, and percutaneous images with precise detail, offering an unparalleled combination of utility and image quality. It is the first fully configured ultrasound system to feature a powerful, full back-up power solution, which the company believes will improve overall departmental efficiency as well as reduce patient wait times.

The BK Power Pack significantly enhances the value of the Flex Focus ultrasound system in the surgical suite by providing clinicians the freedom to attend to their patients with no downtime between procedures. The fully charged BK Power Pack provides approximately four hours of continuous operation and three hours of uninterrupted scanning time, which includes both scanning and freezing during each patient exam. As a result, the power pack enables the Flex Focus ultrasound systems to be unplugged and easily moved between patients, or among imaging rooms without interruption to scanning or procedure time.

The BK Power Pack can be charged while the ultrasound system is plugged in, or with a separate charging station in less than three hours. In addition, the power-save mode conserves battery power and increases battery life when not in use. When the system is placed in instant-on mode, it immediately changes from power-save to active mode. The system also features a unique continuous power display that shows physicians and technicians the residual time left to scan, even when the system is turned off. When needed, changing the battery is extremely easy and may be performed during an ultrasound procedure. BK Medical utilized environmentally sound manufacturing and material choices when developing the new back-up power pack, resulting in a product designed with the environment in mind.
