DALLAS, Oct. 8, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Between Sunday, July 25 and Saturday, July 31, 2010, Texas Industries (NYSE:TXI) helped to build a new home for the Johnson family with the crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (EMHE). The episode is scheduled to air at 7:00 p.m. Central Time on Sunday, October 10, 2010 on ABC.

Eric and Elaine Johnson – who counsel couples and connect urban African-Americans with the outdoors – shared a single bedroom with their five girls in a 720-square foot A-frame with a variety of structural issues and other problems, partly left behind from Hurricane Ike in 2008. All that changed as TXI partnered with HHN Homes of Houston, Texas to provide the concrete and masonry cement for this exceptional project. TXI employees from the South Texas Ready Mix group dedicated their time and efforts to the project from start to finish. The tight time frame required to tear down an existing home and rebuild in less than one week is a daunting task, and TXI's South Texas Ready Mix, Cement and Package Teams all played critical roles in meeting the deadline.

TXI's concrete used in this foundation was specifically designed to be highly workable and flowable, but also to set up in the rapid time frame needed to keep the project moving. The high early strength requirement, along with the need for long-term durability made TXI Texcrete™ the product of choice for the project. The concrete was placed like normal concrete, had great workability and met the required strength on schedule.  Coordination with production, drivers and quality control technicians to organize placement of this special mix design was essential for TXI's success as part of this project. The TXI QC team was on-site for most of the 24-hour period while the concrete was placed, and the pour was supported by two shifts of drivers. In addition to the concrete, the TXI Package Group supplied its Fiber Base Coat Stucco Mix for the exterior finish of the home. The entire process was accomplished through the hard work of about 30 employees working alongside with the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew on the project during the week, and despite adverse rainy weather conditions which caused many challenges. TXI employees helped to make this Texas Extreme Makeover: Home Edition a success.
