CONYERS, Ga., Oct. 8, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GeckoSystems Intl. Corp. (Pink Sheets:GCKO) announced today that they have built an assembly line in their R&D facility and received critical components and subsystems to enable near term expansion of their ongoing elder care robot trials. GeckoSystems is a dynamic leader in the emerging mobile robotics industry, revolutionizing their development and usage with "Mobile Robot Solutions for Safety, Security and Service(tm)."

"In order to expand our surrogate companion robot trials for the elderly, we had to hire a mechanical designer to produce the CAD drawings needed for the fabrication of critical adapters. This new hire enabled us to secure some electromechanical subassemblies that have long lead times. I am pleased to report that with the set up of the production line in our lab, the receipt of the custom subassemblies from Regal Manufacturing, and redesign of our robot controller board, the GeckoSPIO(tm), now addressed, we have initiated manufacturing to expand our world's first trials of a new type of surrogate companion for the elderly, the CareBot(tm).

"We have learned a great deal about expected and unexpected human to machine interactions in an elder care setting. Since we are engaged in the elder care robot trials that give us a 'first mover' opportunity, we expect this reality and the scope of the pent up demand in this market to reward our approximately 1,400 GCKO stockholders with a satisfying ROI," observed Martin Spencer, President/CEO, GeckoSystems.

About the CareBot:

Like an automobile, mobile service robots are made from steel, aluminum, plastic, and electronics, but with ten to twenty times the amount of software running. The CareBot has an aluminum frame, plastic shroud, two independently driven wheels, multiple sensor systems, microprocessors and several onboard computers connected in a local area network (LAN). The onboard computers each run independent, highly specialized cooperative/subsumptive artificial intelligence (AI) software programs, GeckoSavants(tm), which interact to complete tasks in a timely, intelligent and common sense manner. GeckoNav(tm), GeckoChat(tm) and GeckoTrak(tm) are primary GeckoSavants. GeckoNav is responsible for maneuvering, avoiding dynamic and/or static obstacles, seeking waypoints and patrolling. GeckoChat is responsible for interaction with the care-receiver such as answering questions, assisting with daily routines and reminders, and responding to other verbal commands. GeckoTrak, which is mostly transparent to the user, enables the CareBot to maintain proximity to the care-receiver using sensor fusion. The CareBot is a surrogate robotic companion for the elderly with many unexpected and important benefits.
