DETROIT, Oct. 11, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With an Oct. 14 reception that is open to the public, Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq:CPWR) will inaugurate a downtown rarity: an office-building art gallery.

Its name is Boutique: A Compuware Gallery. The space, in Compuware world headquarters, will highlight the work of local artists and merchants.

"We believe this is the first downtown art gallery operated by a local corporation, and we're happy to be leading the way to more cultural diversity in the central business district," said Meg Heeres, Compuware's fulltime curator.

Boutique opens Thursday, Oct. 14, with a Compuware employee show titled "Beyond the Cube." It will feature art ranging from photographs to fiber to blown glass. The reception will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

After the employee show closes Nov. 12, a holiday gift show starting Nov. 19 will offer work by a variety of Detroit galleries and local businesses for convenient, homegrown shopping. Boutique's holiday bazaar will be open every Friday, and will feature special events that center upon businesses in the downtown and Midtown areas.

"We might showcase everything from dog training to coffee tasting," Heeres said.

In January, Boutique will begin exhibiting works by the city's numerous artists.

Boutique, at 99 Monroe, between Farmer and Randolph, will be open to the public during the employee show Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
