PEABODY, Mass., Oct. 13, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), a leading provider of medical imaging and aviation security technology, announced today that the Company has shipped its 3,000th large-area, multi-slice data acquisition system (DAS), which it developed and manufactured for a major medical OEM customer. These systems are installed in medical facilities as subsystems of high-performance computed tomography (CT) scanners.

Analogic has been on the leading edge of CT technology for nearly 40 years, helping pioneer its expansion into areas such as cardiology and neurology. The Company's products are in over half of the installed CT scanners worldwide. Analogic's multi-slice DAS, coupled with its leading-edge wide area detector arrays, is capable of imaging the heart between beats in a single rotation of the CT gantry.

Mervat Faltas, Analogic's vice president and general manager of the OEM medical group, said, "We are very proud to celebrate this major milestone in the production of one of our most advanced CT DAS products. It is a testament to the value of linking our advanced imaging technology to the clinical requirements of the medical community. Our OEM customers rely on our engineering and manufacturing expertise for the kinds of cutting-edge solutions that will give them a competitive advantage in the global marketplace."

Analogic's CT technology is also widely used in the aviation industry. The Company's CT-based automatic Explosives Detection Systems (EDSs) are installed in airports around the world, screening checked and checkpoint baggage for explosives and other threats.
