OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 21, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Alzheimer's Association is inviting Oklahoma City residents to become Champions in the fight against Alzheimer's by participating in the annual Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® featuring Thunder Mascot Rumble the Bison as Honorary Grand Marshal. The AT&T Bricktown Ballpark will be the site of the Memory Walk on October 23 starting at 8:30 am with Registration. The Walk will begin at 10:00 am.

Alzheimer's disease is a growing epidemic that is now the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. It is estimated that someone in America develops Alzheimer's disease every 70 seconds. By mid-century someone will develop Alzheimer's disease every 33 seconds. Alzheimer's disease is expected to affect more American families than any other disease by 2015.

"There has never been a greater need for the citizens of Oklahoma City to join in the fight against Alzheimer's disease by participating in Memory Walk," said Keili McEwen, Regional Director for the Central Oklahoma office of the Alzheimer's Association. "As many as 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and funds raised will provide support services to the 74,000 residents of Oklahoma living with Alzheimer's, while also contributing to critically needed research."

The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is an empowering event that gives participants an opportunity to be Champions by taking action and raising funds to fight Alzheimer's. In addition to the ½ mile and 1 mile Walk routes, participants will enjoy kids activities, live music, Pawz for a Cauze, vendors and much more. Participants may bring dogs that are on a leash.

This year's Memory Walk is presented by Cypress Springs Residence and FOX 25. More information about Memory Walk can be found at www.okcmemorywalk.com .
