BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 26, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EagleBank announced today that the national Bowl ("Bowl") game formerly known as the EagleBank Bowl will, henceforth, be known as The Military Bowl with Northrop Grumman serving as the principal sponsor. EagleBank collaborated closely with Bowl leadership in helping identify a prestigious, nationally-known corporate naming partner. The game is scheduled to take place at RFK Memorial Stadium on December 29, 2010.  The primary beneficiary of this year's Bowl game will be the USO.

"We are proud to have brought the first and second national Bowl game to Washington, D.C," said Ronald D. Paul, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EagleBank. "The opportunity to play such an active role in its creation and to see it grow to its current level of success has been exciting for our bank and our community. Because of this success and growth, the Bowl has gained national recognition and will be better served by a major sponsor that is nationally known, such as Northrop Grumman. Our efforts on behalf of the Bowl began as an excellent way for EagleBank, a local bank, to impact the local economy and support local charities. It also provided substantial fundraising to benefit wounded veterans and their families, here and elsewhere.

By selecting USO, Northrop Grumman will be building on this Bowl's tradition of supporting our men and women in uniform – and to providing resources for the many courageous veterans and their families who are in need," Mr. Paul added.

While EagleBank will still be involved with the Bowl at a different level, the Bank can direct its attention to enhancing and expanding its philanthropic work on behalf of local and community causes, economic development and job creation in the Metro Area. Since its founding in 1998, EagleBank, through the EagleBank Foundation and through the generosity of Bank leadership, has supported various charities such as the National Kidney Foundation - National Capital Chapter, the George Washington University Cancer Center, Providence Hospital, and cancer survivor programs at a number of Washington-area hospitals, to name a few.

Mr. Paul added: "The Bowl and all the events that surround the game have become an important part of our community and have positively impacted local businesses.  Consequently, we will continue to be actively engaged with the Bowl game and to support this exciting and important annual event.  We look forward to the 2010 game - and to many future games in the Nation's Capital."
