TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 27, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comtech EF Data Corporation announced today that its CDM-750 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem was awarded the North American New Product Innovation of the Year Award in Satellite Communications Modems by Frost & Sullivan. This award recognizes the accomplishments of Comtech EF Data in the field of satellite communication modems.

For the New Product Innovation of the Year Award, Frost & Sullivan utilized a number of criteria to benchmark Comtech's performance against key competitors, including innovative element of the product, leverage of leading edge technologies, value-added features/benefits, increased customer value and customer acquisition/penetration potential. The CDM-750 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem outranked competitors in all categories, resulting in the achievement of the award.

The CDM-750 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem was designed with the needs of telco operators and ISPs in mind. Its innovative, high-performance architecture allows efficient networking and transport over satellite links for a variety of applications – IP trunking, G.703 trunking, high-speed content delivery, disaster recovery & emergency communications.

An industry-first, the CDM-750 simultaneously supports DVB-S2, ACM, GZIP compression and DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier®. Leveraging DVB-S2 EN 302 307 LDPC/BCH, the CDM-750 provides the best possible blend of modulation and coding to ensure that the maximum amount of satellite traffic is transported for a given signal to noise capacity. With ACM, the CDM-750 can respond to changing link conditions by automatically adjusting performance and error correction, resulting in its ability to convert link margin into user capacity under all conditions and to deliver up to 100% increase in throughput. GZIP Compression is a high-speed ASIC-based lossless hardware compression and typically provides an additional bandwidth savings or capacity increase of 40-50%. DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier allows the transmit and receive carriers of a full-duplex satellite link to be transmitted in the same transponder space. When combined with advanced FEC and modulation, it delivers unprecedented operating expense savings.

"Comtech EF Data is addressing the key industry challenges of improving bandwidth utilization and user throughput by providing solutions that lower costs and simultaneously optimize bandwidth," commented Anand Srinivasan, research analyst for Frost & Sullivan. "Comtech EF Data is receiving this award based on its leading innovation and unique, best practices approach to the satellite communications modem market."

"We are honored to receive this prestigious, best practice award in recognition of the innovative technologies and multi-dimensional optimization provided by the CDM-750," said Louis Dubin, vice president product management for Comtech EF Data.
