LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- After a 9 week-long trial and 12 days of deliberations, the jury in the Anna Nicole drug conspiracy trial returned verdicts this afternoon. Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, one of three defendants, was cleared of all six counts against him. Ellyn Garofalo, an attorney at the highly regarded law firm, Liner Grode LLP, represented Dr. Kapoor.
Psychiatrist Khristine Eroshevich and Smith's attorney, Howard K. Stern, were found guilty on some counts related to obtaining prescriptions for Smith using a false name. Sentencing is scheduled for January 6.
The larger-than-life blonde was once regarded as one of the world's most desirable women during the 1990s when she replaced supermodel Claudia Schiffer as a Guess Jeans' model.
"I feel surreal, elated, shell-shocked," said Dr. Kapoor. "It's been almost four years . . . with the support of my patients and family, we made it through." Kapoor, 42, was Smith's internist and pain management physician.
His lawyer, Ellyn Garofalo, said "We are very pleased with this result. This nightmare for Dr. Kapoor is over, he has been vindicated, and he can now put this behind him."
