A tropical storm warning was issued for Bermuda Friday as Tropical Storm Shary approached in the Atlantic.

Shary's maximum sustained winds early Friday were near 40 mph. Some strengthening is expected later in the day but the National Hurricane Center in Miami said weakening is likely over the weekend.

Shary's center is expected to pass near or east of Bermuda on Friday night.

The Bermuda Weather Service issued a tropical storm warning for the island, with wind and tropical storm conditions expected in Bermuda by the afternoon.

Early Friday, Shary was located about 265 miles south of Bermuda and moving northwest near 18 mph.

The storm was moving northwest near 18 mph . A turn to the north was expected later Friday, and a turn to the northeast Friday night, hurricane center forecasters said.

The hurricane center said it appeared that Shary would be a relatively short-lived tropical storm.

The storm's forecast track shows it being no threat to the United States.

Bermuda, a popular resort and global insurance hub, was pounded by Hurricane Igor last month.

Shary is the 18th named storm of the 2010 hurricane season.
