SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 2, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Diamond Foods, Inc. (Nasdaq:DMND) announced today that its Emerald® snack nut brand will continue to sponsor the final five miles of the 2010 ING New York City Marathon to reach thousands of runners and millions of spectators with its natural energy message.

Emerald supports "Better-For-You" products and healthy lifestyles and will activate several on-site promotions to help runners reach their 26.2 mile goal. Before the race, the brand will be featured at the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo in a special tent where runners will receive a sample of one of five varieties of 100 Calorie Pack Almonds.   On race day, when runners reach mile 23, just as they turn into Central Park at 90th Street and 5th Avenue, they will be greeted by members of the Emerald cheer zone welcoming them to the final miles of the race. During the race, an Emerald street team will be sharing product samples with spectators at several spots along the final five miles of the ING New York City Marathon course, including Central Park South.  Before and after the race, runners will receive a plethora of Diamond Foods' better-for-you snack offerings, including Emerald's Breakfast On The Go! Nut, Fruit & Granola Mix and Kettle Brand® 100 Calorie Pack Baked Potato Chips, along with discount coupons for future purchases.
