WASHINGTON, Nov. 4, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- INFORMATICA WORLD 2010 -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq:INFA), the world's number one independent provider of data integration software, today announced the company's sponsorship of students involved in the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), a nonprofit organization. Informatica supports CEE's mission to nurture careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for high school and university scholars.

"CEE has been an influential leader in championing efforts to provide science, technology, engineering and mathematics initiatives for this nation's top achieving students," said Senator Joe Lieberman, United States Senator for Connecticut. "I take pleasure in saying that CEE is a treasure and strong resource that will continue to sustain innovation and to assure this nation's economic growth and national security. What is good for the Center for Excellence in Education is good for America."

Every year CEE, in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, hosts a program called the Research Science Institute (RSI) that recruits the most intellectually gifted and talented students from across the country and around the world. The program is designed to inspire and cultivate the next generation of scientists, innovators and researchers, through advanced theory, practical research and interactions with top researchers/scientists including many Nobel Laureates. The goal is to nurture top achievers to drive tomorrow's advances in science and technology.

"CEE supports the efforts of the most brilliant young students to contribute to the benefit of the whole world through their scientific research. Their extraordinary accomplishments are an inspiration to all of us," said Dr. John Mather, Senior Project Scientist, James Webb Space Telescope, NASA, 2006 Nobel Prize, Physics.

In 2010, Informatica sponsored two students for the computer science and engineering components of CEE's RSI program. Here is what one of the students had to say about the program:

  • "During RSI, I did research in the lab of Professor Bonnie Berger at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL)," said Gabriel See, high school student. "The research in the field of Computational Biology involved extensive knowledge in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Molecular Biology. I developed complex programs to analyze gene expression data from large datasets and attempted to find the connections between the genes. Because of the RSI program and the advanced skills I have learned in science/math, I am passionate about a career in science/math and appreciate Informatica's support of the program."

CEE is exhibiting this week at Informatica World 2010 at booth number 407 and Joann P. DiGennaro, President of the Center is presenting on November 4, 2010, the final day of the show. Informatica is continuing its support of CEE during Informatica World by donating a monetary contribution for every evaluation form that is completed by attendees at the conference. Informatica World attendees can also donate directly to CEE by visiting the CEE booth or on their website.
