SAN DIEGO, Nov. 8, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions that enable connected home entertainment, today announced that it has been selected as a winner for the 2010 TechAmerica High Tech Awards. Entropic's MoCA (multimedia over coax alliance) silicon solution was recognized in the Communications Products and Services category.

Entropic's MoCA silicon was noted for its ability to provide the high-speed and robust backbone for connected home entertainment networking. It is the fastest, most reliable silicon solution that both increases bandwidth and streamlines the delivery of multimedia throughout the home, which is required for services such as multi-room DVR. Entropic's MoCA silicon is currently being deployed by nearly all major North American pay-TV service providers, including Verizon FiOS, DIRECTV, Comcast, Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable.

"As consumers are being introduced to cutting-edge in-home entertainment such as multi-room DVR, 3DTV, and over-the-top services, our MoCA silicon has emerged as the clear leader for connecting these devices and creating a home entertainment network," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, marketing and business development, Entropic Communications. "Having shipped more than 30 million chipsets, we believe MoCA is the de facto standard for home entertainment networking. Additionally, now having won a TechAmerica High Tech award provides further proof of our innovative thinking and our ability to deliver world-class silicon technologies."

TechAmerica judged each company based on a variety of criteria including innovation, marketplace validation and competitive landscape. Entropic's MoCA silicon was recognized for its competitive advantages, including backward interoperability with all earlier MoCA standards, which prepares service operator systems to future-proof their networks for new service deployments. All MoCA standards are interoperable, including MoCA 1.0, MoCA 1.1, and newly ratified MoCA 2.0. Other home networking standards are not compatible with earlier standards and require complete "truck lift" upgrades.

"The highly-competitive TechAmerica High Tech awards celebrate the achievements of technology companies and their innovative contributions to the industry and their communities," said Kevin Carroll, executive director for TechAmerica San Diego. "Entropic Communications earned this award for its innovative technology, ability to execute and community involvement. We're glad to recognize Entropic Communications and its MoCA silicon as winner for the Communications category, and we look forward to seeing new and innovative technologies from Entropic in 2011."

The TechAmerica High Tech awards program is in its 17th year and is designed to showcase innovative technology companies. Each company is judged based on innovation, products or services, marketplace validation, perseverance and community involvement.
