NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc.'s (Nasdaq:NDAQ) GlobeNewswire news and disclosure service today released results from its survey conducted at the PRSA 2010 International Conference in Washington D.C. The survey, aimed at gauging the perception of evolving news dissemination practices, revealed that many communication professionals have embraced non-traditional wire options and digital video enhancements. Additionally, results of the survey indicate that public relations practitioners are interested in utilizing news dissemination services that include methods outside of text-only press releases.

According to the survey, nearly 70 percent of respondents have considered using a video release and of those respondents, an overwhelming 91 percent have used or heard of "do-it-yourself" news services. Further, the majority of respondents (57 percent) believe picture, video and digital components are valuable additions to press releases. These trends speak to the need for enhanced services and video release options, such as those already available from GlobeNewswire.

"The results of our survey indicate increased demand for digital innovation across the communication landscape," said Demetrios Skalkotos, Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Services, NASDAQ OMX. "NASDAQ OMX is meeting this demand head-on by providing communication professionals with options for news dissemination. We will continue to meet the needs of this market by bringing forth services that are innovative, cost effective, and ensure that professionals are maintaining the highest standards of compliance and governance."

NASDAQ OMX's Corporate Solutions division recently developed GlobeNewswire's Do-It-Yourself option, which differs from traditional editorial press release models by giving users full control of the release and removing the intermediary step of requiring an editor to prepare and format content. Also, NASDAQ OMX's interactive media solutions go beyond traditional means of communication by providing companies with the option of using live video to highlight the most important messages within a release.

The survey also found that the vast majority of respondents (93 percent) believe that standard text content is still necessary as part of the press release process. GlobeNewswire's service empowers public relations and investor relations professionals to keep text central to the release, while also providing video options for news dissemination.

"We know that services such as DIY, video and social media integration are increasingly important for our users. We also know that these enhancements compliment the tried-and-true press release with text being central to users' method of news dissemination," said Jeff Stacey, Senior Managing Director, NASDAQ OMX. "Our goal is to provide communication professionals with choices for how they service their clients and constituents."
