Northwest Kansas is getting what's believed to be the state's first new airport in more than a decade.
A groundbreaking ceremony was planned Friday for the Rooks County Regional Airport.
The new airport will feature a 5,000-foot concrete runway, terminal area and parking area. Two turf-runway airports in Stockton and Plainville will be retired.
The $4 million project is funded mostly by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
