Two more inmates have died due to a prison fire near El Salvador's capital, bringing the toll to 19.
Doctors at the Rosales Hospital in San Salvador say the young men died of damage to their internal organs. They said Friday that at least one other victim is in critical condition following Wednesday's fire in the city of Ilobasco.
Most of the prisoners had served time in facilities for youthful offenders and were transferred to Ilobasco after they turned 18 to serve out any remaining sentences.
Inmates tell local news media that a short circuit caused the fire.
