Celanese Corp., which provides chemicals used to make adhesives, paints, films, coatings and textiles, said Friday it will increase the price of acetic acid starting on Monday.

The increase amounts to 5 cents per pound in the United States.

Acetic acid is often used in the production of chemicals that make up glues for the packaging and building industries, and for paints, textiles and paper.

Shares of Celanese Corp. fell $1.05, or 2.8 percent, to $36.73 in afternoon trading.
