MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 12, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ronald Smith, vice president of mission assurance for Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Information Systems sector, was recently named a California Polytechnic (Cal Poly) State University 2010 College of Engineering Honored Alumnus in recognition of his leadership and professional accomplishments. This is the highest honor bestowed on an alumnus by the Cal Poly College of Engineering.

Smith graduated from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo with a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering. He is a member of the Cal Poly President's Cabinet.

Smith joined TRW in 1982 and Northrop Grumman via the TRW acquisition. He has held many technical and managerial positions related to the development of electrical communications hardware for satellite systems. He was also responsible for the design and development of all electrical hardware for flight programs including radio frequency, digital, mixed signal and power and control disciplines, and flight-embedded software.

In his present role, Smith leads the sector's activities to drive disciplined programs, engineering and process management principles to deliver quality products and services, enhanced productivity and assured program performance.
