A London-based cabbie has admitted living a double life as a Taliban fighter, according to a report.

The man, who was described as a mid-level commander, said there were "many people like me" in the U.K. capital, the Guardian newspaper reported.

The paper said it spoke to him in Dhani-Ghorri in northern Afghanistan last month. It said he told them he spent three months a year there on combat duty, but ordinarily lived in east London.

He said his older brother also lived in London and had fought in the area, the Guardian reported.

"I work as a minicab driver. I make good money there (in the U.K.), you know. But these people are my friends and my family and it's my duty to come to fight the jihad with them," the man was quoted as saying. The Guardian did not identify him.

"There are many people like me in London. We collect money for the jihad all year and come and fight if we can," he added.

There were reports last year that regional English accents had been heard in intercepts of radio communications between Taliban fighters.

A dead insurgent was also found to have a tattoo declaring allegiance to Aston Villa, an English soccer team.
