NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dow Jones & Company announced today the appointment of Alisa Bowen as general manager of The Wall Street Journal Digital Network, the company's consumer digital business group.

Ms. Bowen will drive strategy, development and operations for market-leading products including WSJ.com, Barrons.com, MarketWatch.com, SmartMoney.com, AllThingsD.com and their mobile applications.

"We have a large, fast-growing, digital business with high expectations for continued growth. Alisa has the background and skill to expand the digital potential of our current brands and to continue to pioneer new products and platforms to help us achieve our goals," said Todd Larsen, president of Dow Jones.

WSJ.com and other digital Dow Jones products count more than 1.1 million paying subscribers and attract premium advertising to their affluent and influential reader demographic. In the most recent quarter, digital ad revenue at the Journal jumped 29%.

Ms. Bowen, who joins Dow Jones on Dec. 13, had been senior vice president and head of business operations, Reuters Media, at Thomson Reuters. In nearly 10 years at the company, she previously was the global head of consumer publishing and was responsible for global product development, general manager of Reuters.com and a business analyst and media strategist.

Naming her one of the "40 under 40" rising stars in New York City for 2010, Crain's New York credited Ms. Bowen with growing Reuters' consumer audience by 50% over the past two years. While at Reuters she was responsible for rolling out mobile applications in 17 countries.

"Dow Jones and the Journal have been the news industry's clear leaders in creating a digital business that is compelling and sustainable. This is an opportunity to extend that lead by creating new and dynamic experiences for readers who rely on the trust and authority of Dow Jones and the Journal," Ms. Bowen said.

Ms. Bowen has an MBA from the London Business School and an undergraduate degree from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

Reporting to Mr. Larsen, Ms. Bowen succeeds Gordon McLeod, who left WSJDN in September.
