SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 10, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Employee volunteers from Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division recently sponsored two events aimed at supporting local charitable causes during the holiday season.

In November, volunteers from Northrop Grumman's VERITAS (Veterans, Employees, Reservists Inspired to Act and Support) employee resource group made a holiday donation of over 100 handmade bags to the Operation Adopt a Ghost nonprofit organization, which will send the bags to soldiers deployed overseas. The VERITAS group filled the bags with snacks, toiletries and entertainment items such as books and puzzles for the soldiers, who are either Utah-based or have ties to the state.
"Northrop Grumman's donation will help Operation Adopt a Ghost in our mission to provide emotional support to the troops overseas," said Linda Larsen, founder and president of Operation Adopt a Ghost. "This is never more important than during the holidays, when many of the deployed soldiers will not be able to come home and celebrate."

"We believe it is especially important to volunteer our time and resources during these challenging economic times."
On Dec. 9, volunteers from the company's employee resource groups made another holiday donation by providing a catered dinner to nearly 120 local families whose children are members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake. During the dinner, held at the Lied Boys & Girls Club facility, the employee volunteers presented 225 stockings filled with gifts to the children in attendance.
Northrop Grumman's Salt Lake City site has been actively engaged with the local Boys & Girls Club holding multiple outreach activities to benefit the Lied Boys & Girls Club, including a fall clean-up event at the facility. Employee volunteers also participate in reading groups and individual tutoring sessions at the Boys & Girls Club, which offers after-school programs to local youth addressing educational achievement, career exploration, leadership development, and community service.
