Ecosphere Announces New EF60 Technology to Help Energy Companies Sustainably Develop U.S. Gas and Oil Reserves

STUART, Fla., Dec. 15, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ecosphere Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:ESPH), a diversified water engineering and environmental services company, today introduced its newest product, the EF60. The EF60 is a mobile high volume advanced oxidation system specifically designed to eliminate chemicals during the fracturing of natural gas and oil wells while allowing energy producers to recycle 100% of their production waters. Ecosphere Technologies, through its majority owned subsidiary Ecosphere Energy Services, LLC, has been operating its patented Ozonix technology on hundreds of wells in the oil and natural gas industry since 2008. The EF60 product development was driven by customer demand to decrease the amount of equipment footprint at the frac site while increasing mobility from frac site to frac site.

Sanjeev Jakhete, Ecosphere Technologies, Sr. V.P. of Engineering and Co-Inventor of the patented Ecosphere Ozonix process, stated, "It is very rewarding professionally that our major energy customers have allowed us to help them eliminate chemicals during their hydraulic fracturing process with our Ozonix technology. The EF60 project has been a customer driven collaboration over the past 12 months to improve the Ozonix equipment we presently have operating in the field. The EF60 has the ability to process fresh water, flowback waters and produced waters at the variable flow rates required to keep up with the pressure pumping company's equipment during the fracturing process. The EF60 processes frac water at 60 barrels per minute (2,500 gallons per minute). Two of our EF60s will be used on each frac to eliminate the biocides and scale inhibitors our energy customers are presently using to fracture their wells."

Aaron Horn, President of Ecosphere Energy Services, stated, "Ecosphere's EF60 is the right product at the right time for our customers. Its small footprint, high productivity and ease of moving onto and off the frac site will give our customers maximum efficiency at extremely competitive prices. The fact that it kills bacteria while preventing scale without chemicals will make it very attractive to energy companies interested in environmentally-friendly alternatives to chemicals that have traditionally been used for fracturing wells."

Energy production companies are discovering large amounts of natural gas and oil trapped in unconventional shale reservoirs throughout the U.S. and around the world, including Canada, Europe, Asia, and especially China. Ecosphere's patented Ozonix technology continues to work successfully in the Woodford and Fayetteville Shale regions. The Marcellus, Haynesville, Eagle Ford, and Bakken Shales will be some of the regions for expansion with the new EF60 technology. In the Marcellus Shale, smaller well pads, environmental concerns with discharging wastewater from fracturing, and the heavy truck traffic will benefit from the EF60 Ozonix System's ability to process water at the well site.

Ecosphere was recently named by Lux Research as a "Future Star" and rated as the #1 Advanced Oxidation Process technology to unlock offshore oil and gas reserves. See Lux Research Report:
