DALLAS, Dec. 15, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Consumer demand for increased product efficacy and transparency in the personal care industry will turn the focus to "intelligent skin care" in 2011 predicts Rhonda Allison, founder and CEO of Rhonda Allison Cosmeceuticals, a pioneer in professional skin rejuvenation. The concept of combining time-tested, proven ingredients with scientific advancements will drive more quality, results-driven skin care formulations to the forefront in response to consumer distrust in the efficacy of many mainstream products.

"This year is all about intelligent skin care," Allison said. "Using nature and advances in science we can inhibit the cell's aging process, reduce age spots and hyperpigmentation, and enhance cell regeneration. Consumers will begin to seek out formulators using intelligent skin care ingredients."

In 2011, intelligent skin care ingredients will include organic stem cells, which are extracted from plant and apple stem cells and have the ability to promote longevity in human cells. New-generation peptides, one from Matrixyl, whichpromises 70 to 100 percent reductions in line formation, and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, which helps smooth wrinkles from the inside will also be used more in formulations.

Other ingredients will include, Thermus Thermophilus Ferment Extract, a deep-sea microorganism used to fight free radicals; Belides (Daisy Flower), a  polyphenol-rich lightener that inhibits excess melanin and lightens the skin surface; and Tetrahydrocucuminoids, a potent antioxidant compound from Turmeric that provides natural UV protection, reduces inflammation, and reduces aging.

Some of the time-tested, proven skin care ingredients boosted by scientific advances – a few of which have yet to hit the mainstream – include Retinol, vital to skin rejuvenation; Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), an essential protein and powerful cell regenerator that supports cell renewal and wound repair; and Resveratrol, a potent antioxidant found in red grapes and wine that delivers polyphenols, anti-inflammatory properties, and UV and free-radical protection.

"We will also continue to see antioxidant-rich "super fruits" like goji berry, and exotic flowers like Rhodiola Rosea Root and Buddleja Davidii (Butterfly Bush), which protect skin tissues against oxidative stress," Allison said. "What will become most important though is building consumer awareness of ingredient labels. Consumers must consider quality of raw ingredients, combinations and levels, and the base of formulas for product efficacy."
