A Chicago attraction being billed as the world's highest skating rink is set to open this weekend.

The rink on the 94th floor of downtown's John Hancock Center will open Saturday.

Officials say the 1,000-square-foot skating rink will allow 20 people to skate at a time.

The rink won't actually be made of ice. It's a synthetic material that creates a hard, plastic floor with a slick silicone glaze. The rink will be complete with safety rails.

Skating will be offered from January through March.

Making skating available 1,000 feet up is part of efforts to lure more visitors to the building's 94th floor during the winter. The floor also has an open-air skywalk and a cafe.

The Hancock Center also plans to offer skating lessons on weekends.
