BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Jan. 6, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Advocat Inc. (Nasdaq:AVCA) today announced that it was participating in a United Way healthy-lifestyles initiative for its corporate office employees. The 90-day pilot program known as Get Fit Cool Springs is designed to promote healthier lifestyles for employees to get more exercise, eat better and quit smoking.

William R. Council, III, Chief Executive Officer of Advocat, commented, "We spend more time in the office than we do in our homes; Therefore, the workplace is a great place for helping employees live longer and stay active and productive. We have already provided other healthy living components such as starting a Weight Watchers group and allowing more time for physical fitness so this program is just an extension of our initiatives for healthy living. We are pleased to partner with United Way of Williamson County in this initiative."

The pilot includes yoga seminars, nutritious cooking demonstrations and a friendly fitness challenge between employees.
