LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (International CES; Booth #36212-South Hall), Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, and Marvell (Nasdaq:MRVL), a worldwide leader in integrated silicon solutions, today announced their collaboration to accelerate the development of a new class of industry first MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) 2.0 enabled consumer electronics and customer premise equipment (CPE) designed to allow service providers to distribute virtually unconstrained bandwidth to and within the home.

As service providers look to enable future services, applications and IP gateway/client architectures, the need for more bandwidth in the home will become increasingly important. The cooperation between Marvell and Entropic leverages the power of Marvell® AVANTA™ Gateway-on-a-chip and ARMADA™ 1000 media processor system-on-a-chip with Entropic's recently announced complete MoCA 2.0 silicon and software solution to enable a greater level of MAC throughput over coax cables for broadband routers, IP set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.

Through this collaboration, service providers and their original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will have access to reference designs allowing them to quickly develop products with world-class performance and unsurpassed throughput of 400 Mbps to 1000 Mbps, depending on the requirements of the operator. Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution will enable operators to scale from today's multi-room DVR, streaming HD VoD and WiFi extender services to streaming of full resolution 3DTV, remote user interface protocols and all IP video networks with converged high speed data access all over the same in-home coax cables with backward interoperability to their existing MoCA 1.1 networks.

"Interactive services such as video, online gaming and video conferencing are only limited by currently available technology," said Michael Zimmerman, associate vice president, Marvell Semiconductors, Inc. "Our rich experience in high performance enterprise solutions and our broad product portfolio for consumer electronic platforms, combined with Entropic Communication's MoCA 2.0 technology, will enable service providers to meet the long-term needs of bandwidth-intensive applications and services."

Collectively, Marvell and Entropic have been working with service providers and OEMs to deliver new silicon and software solutions for MoCA 2.0 that will create the highest performing whole-home Ethernet network using existing coaxial cable infrastructure.

"In the competitive connected home entertainment market, service providers will continually need to offer new services and applications to increase subscriber share and ARPU," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development at Entropic Communications. "Entropic and Marvell have teamed up to introduce new reference platforms, based on the MoCA 2.0 standard, that will enable service providers to push next generation broadband to the home. This will ultimately enable highly-efficient video and data distribution that will meet the call for uncompromised performance while creating new revenue-generating business models."

Entropic's MoCA 2.0 solution will be demonstrated in Entropic's Booth #36212, by appointment only, during CES, January 6-9, 2010, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. For more information on Entropic, visit: www.entropic.com.
